The Bureau Of Indian Standards(BIS) Operates Product Certification Schemes By Which It Grants Licenses To Manufacturers. Practically Covering Every Industrial Discipline From Agriculture And Textiles To Electronics BIS Is Functioning Under The Administrative Control Of Ministry Of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. The Certification Allows The Licensees To Use ISI Mark, Which Has Become Synonymous With Quality Products For The Indian And Worldwide Markets
Regulatory Requirements
The Food Safety And Standards (Prohibition And Restriction On Sales) Regulations, 2011 Has Prescribed Mandatory Certification Under The BIS Act For The Following Products:
- Infant Formula (IS14433)
- Milk Cereal Based Weaning Food (IS1656)
- Processed Cereal Based Weaning Food (IS11536)
- Follow Up Formula(IS15757)
- Packaged Drinking Water(IS14543)
- Packaged Mineral Water(IS13428)
- Milk Powder(IS1165)
- Skimmed Milk Powder(IS13334)
- Partly Skimmed Milk Powder(IS14542)
- Condensed Milk,Partly Skimmed And Skimmed Condensed Milk(IS1166)
Application Process For Product Certification
- Fill-Up The Prescribed Application Form Along with Necessary Documentation.
- Nominate An Authorised Indian Person Using Prescribed Nomination Form.
- Ensure That Application Is Complete, Refer The Below List Of Documentation
- Submit Duly Filled-In And Complete Application Along With Requisite Fees; Documentation (In Duplicate) And Nomination Form Of AIR

- Process Flow-Chart Showing Complete Manufacturing Process
- Quality Assurance System Being Followed In Factory
- Details Of Other Certifications, If Any, For The Product(S) And/Or Systems In The Factory
- Details Of Pre-Certification, If Any, For The Components / Raw Materials Used In Manufacturing Of The Product
- List Of Manufacturing Machinery
- List Of Test Equipment (For Complete Testing)
- Drawing Of The Product And/Or Components
- Appointment Letter, Qualification Certificate And Experience Details Of Lab In-Charge
- Test Report From An Independent Accredited Lab
- Layout Plan Of The Factory Premises
- Location Plan Of The Factory From The Nearest Airport / Railway Station / Landmark
- Details About The Previous Licences Held / Licences Cancelled / Applications Rejected
